History
Biagae are made from cowrie shells filled with mercury and/or takrut & are used to protect against evil spirits, black magic and evil forces. It would be good to known that not every cowrie shell is suitable to be made into a biagae. It requires very strict requirements such as the biagae needs to have 32 "teeths" ( the lines underneath the shells ) as it is said that this sort of biagae incorporates magical powers suitable for making amulets. After which, mercury is poured into the shell & sealed with the extremely famous Phong Ya Chinnamanee also invented by LP Boon. Phong Ya Chinnamanee is a miracle herb that is believed to be able to cure many illnesses. The mercury inside the biagae when shaken creates a kluk kluk kind of sound & sensation which is very unique.
Biagae being a Non-Buddha Image amulet is suitable to be put into pockets, handbags etc when carried around. If left at home, it can be placed on the altar or anywhere to draw a protective defense perimeter around the house to prevent evil & manevolent spirits from coming close.
Biagaes from Wat Klang Bang Kaew are among the most collectible & recognized biagaes in Thailand. Biagaes from Wat Klang Bang Kaew was made popular by LP Boon ( whom was the grand master of LP Cher ) when he first made it more than a century back. The widespread good experiences from the wearers spread from one person to another & soon many people from far provinces rushed to the temple to get one for themselves. LP Boon's biagae has made the temple famous & have remained so for more than 100 years through 3 generations of great biagae making monks namely LP Boon, LP Pherm & LP Cher.
